iOS 5 Tips:How to Fix iOS 5 WiFi Connection Problems – 8 Ways to Fix WiFi Issue

Apple’s support forums reported of complaints of Wi-Fi issues owing to the iOS 5 update a week ago and most of the complainants were found to be owners of iPad, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. They complained of broken connectivity, weak signal strength, and failure to connect via Wi-Fi.

Although the WiFi network was found to be working fine on other devices, it was giving an ‘unable to connect’ message in devices updated to the iOS 5. Most users also complained of their devices taking too long to connect in spite of being able to detect networks. While Apple brings out the solution to fix iOS 5 WiFi connection problems, there are a few other solutions that may be helpful to you.

Given below are the 8 possible fixes for iOS 5 WiFi connection problems:

Restart Your iPhone – Even a simple reboot might sometimes rectify the connectivity issue. Press and hold the SLEEP/WAKE button on the top. Power off the iPhone and then turn it on again.

Forget the Network – Delete your current Wi-Fi network in the Setting and re-configure it again. Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi. Select the existing network and tap “Forget this Network”.

Reset network settings – Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.
Erase All Settings – If resetting doesn’t work, erase all content and settings. Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings.

Restart Your Wi-Fi router –The problem may not necessarily be in your device. It could even be in your Wi-Fi router. Restarting your Wi-Fi router could do it.

Disable WEP/WPA security on Wi-Fi router – Try to disable all security protocols, reboot the wireless router and reconnect your iPhone/iPad over Wi-Fi to see if it works.

Setup Your Wi-Fi Network Manually –Your device normally detects the available Wi-Fi network automatically, however, there is an option that enables to setup the connection manually. Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Other (under “Choose a network”). type in your network name and select the appropriate security protocol (e.g. WPA). Then try to join the network again.

Use Static IP instead of DHCP – Sometimes even though your iPhone shows you’ve connected to the Wi-Fi network, you still can’t access the Internet. It may be because your iPhone fails to get an IP address from the Wi-Fi router. The solution to this is to use static IP configuration instead of DHCP.

In the Wi-Fi Settings screen, tap the blue arrow of your network to access the detailed setting. Tap “Static” (instead of DHCP) and fill in the IP address and other settings manually. If you need to go through the HTTP proxy before accessing the Internet, you’ll need to configure the HTTP Proxy setting.

雖然只能夠 "治標", "唔能夠治本". 但係都好過冇啦.  希望apple 快D出patch (希望下個版本既IOS會fix埋呢個問題)
